This letter is your invitation to attend the School for Congregation Elders at the location and dates shown below:

If you no longer serve as an elder or are unable to attend this class for some other reason, please notify the School for Congregation Elders Desk IMMEDIATELY by telephone (845-306-1100, extension 46998). You will be advised as to what you should do with the material you have received.

Please carefully read and follow all the instructions described below.

Publications and References: At the bottom of this letter you will note two lists. The first list is what you should read and become familiar with before arriving for the first day of school. The second list includes other publications and references you will need during the week of school. When you arrive at school, you will be given a detailed list of all the references that will be covered in class. With the exception of references to the Watchtower, Awake, or Kingdom Ministry, many have found it very beneficial to bring the actual publication and not printouts.

Homework: On Monday through Thursday evenings of the school, please set aside some time to do meditative reading in preparation for the following day's class session.

Meetings: During the week of the school, the class will considere a model Congregation Bible Study on Monday and a model Theocratic Ministry School on Tuesday. Please bring the needed materials for those meetings on the respective days and be prepared to participate as you would at your Kingdom Hall. If your school falls on the week of the Theocratic Ministry School Review, please follow the school schedule as if it was the week of a circuit overseer's visit.

Name Badges: An identification badge will be issued to you when you arrive at the school. Please bring your own lapel badge holder.

Schedule: Classes for the school will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Classes on Friday will start at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 11:55 a.m. You will be provided with a noon meal each day, Monday through Thursday. Your morning and evening meals will be your responsibility.

Dress and grooming: Please plan to dress as you would when attending a congregation meeting. At all times, brothers should wear clothing that is clean, neat, tasteful, and modest.

Pioneers: Elders serving as regular pioneers will be credited 20 hours toward their monthly hour requirement. This credit plus the total number of hours actually spent in field service cannot exceed the monthly goal of 70 hours. Those serving as special pioneers will be given a credit equivalent to one-quarter of their monthly hour requirement.

We understand that it may be challenging for some to arrange their personal affairs to attend this school. However, we encourage you to make every effort to be there. This will afford you a wonderful opportunity to grow in love and appreciation for Jehovah, the Grand Instructor. (Isa. 30:20) You will also receive valuable training in 'shepherding the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own Son.' (Acts 20:28) Please be assured of our continual prayers in your behalf.

Hi everyone. My wife just left for the KH, I told her that if she needs me that I'll help her and that there is nothing bad that is going to happen. She hugged me and squeezed me.

My first real doubts (like "this shit is going to kill someone") came 6 months ago (a week before I opened an account here). My wife was pregnant and the elders came on their compulsary visit (it is compulsary since the last elder school) to remind us so lovingly of the blood transfusion arrangement. They said (and the piece of paper from the branch office (too bad I wasn't allowed to get a copy of it) that they had might have said that as well) that it's better to let our child die for Jehovah as an offering than accept a blood transfusion. I cannot conscientiously agree to that - yeah, maybe if it's really the truth I should shun my family, maybe God will kill everyone but that's on God - but I can not let my lovely baby daughter DIE as an offering to Molech... I mean Jehovah. It is outright forbidden in the Bible to even make such an offering and it's even worse if you say that you're doing it in the name of Jehovah (see Leviticus 18:21).

I told my wife after the conventions - sorry, I can no longer believe what is being thought. She thought it was a fase I was going through. I talked to my father-in-law who is also an elder and he said that what was said to me was not the intention and he was going to clear it up. It was never cleared up - some may say that I should wait on Jehovah - but in the mean time she was born and the doctors had already warned us of a chance (10%) of complications (there were none luckily). What I read in the publications and then later on ajwrb.org cleared things up for me - they have no f*in clue what they're talking about from a medical or scientific standpoint - I work in the scientific field, I know what a good paper (even if it's bullshit) should look like - the Watchtower came nowhere close to even a high school essay on the subject. The doctor reaffirmed my suspicion - there is no substitute to the parts of blood JW's reject and whole blood is almost never used anymore anyway so what parts do we accept as some of her patients accepted all and some none. My wife's family wanted to contact an elder and so we did - plasma is acceptable aka the elder had no f*in clue about his own policies either! I am happy that it's on record that my wife wants to accept the most frequently used blood fractions.

I had been seeking contact with my mother who was disfellowshipped and who I so stupidly shunned on recommendation of the WT and finally got her e-mail address from another ex-Witness. I e-mailed her today and sent pictures of her grand daughter. I hope she doesn't reject me as I did her.

I did. I asked him all the hard question and answered his e-mail line for line. He accused me of not answering his questions, that I'm not thinking for myself but being used as a 'soup ball' by the opposers of the organization and that all such questions came from opposers and thus directly from Satan. I should not question the organization since questioning is from Satan who started by questioning Eve in the Garden of Eden. He also said that I am going to leave my wife and be very unhappy like all the other opposers he knows - they have apparently all left their significant other and are now very unhappy.

So what do YOU do when you're not wasting time at the KH. My first thing will be to do some house work that I was originally going to put off in order to go to the KH. I'll also program some personal stuff that I've been waiting on doing. What do you do with your mate to show them a good time?

It's suprising how calm my family is about the whole thing. It's like they saw it coming and expected what I would do.

my youngest daughter goes to a babysitter who is a sister in my wifes congregation.

the reason being is because the child is an infant and regular daycare is much too expensive.

I think I found DJEggNog. It's my father! I've been having long discussions over e-mail over the last few days. Here are some great tidbits:

"I am a psychiatric social worker and that means that me, yes me can also look far beyond the issues"

"In Belgium Pedophiles can no longer come into consideration for prayer or any task - isn't that better new light?"

"Is there one thing that brings people closer to God? Are you just one time reminded of the good things the organisation has done? Who has uncovered the lies and thought us what cleanliness means and how to stand up for our beliefs in war regardless of persecution?" it goes on and on about the things the organization teaches us and that opposers don't teach us.

"I want to answer your questions but I would like to know first why you feel hurt about the organisation"

"Stop searching for faults in the organisation, all pieces in the organizational chain are human"

"Humble yourself under the mighty hand of Jehovah"

"Jehovah will continue leading us through an organisation that is human and makes mistakes and if we continue doing that in this system of things he will use the organization to lead us through Armageddon"

Yes, I said that. That's why the elder-friend-family came to talk to me. He asked whether I meant disfellowshipped people. I said "all people". I had a great discussion. Off course it went nowhere because everything bad came from Satan and everything good from God so what is it that God has taken from me? I asked him "so why does Jehovah send his angels and holy spirit to the Witness organization in order to mislead them and let people die because of the advice not to take blood transfusions and organ transplants".

It's mindboggling how they are instructed not to think for themselves. He said "such thinking comes from Satan and we have to resist it". So thinking is clearly Satan trying to influence us. We should not think, the borg does that for us.

Hi, long time no see. I am finally out of the borg. Had a talk with an elder-friend-family member today who said I should just do it if that's what I want to do, and my wife says if that's what I want to do that she's fine with it. I know people are going to be disappointed but hey, I'm not running or hiding, I'll do what I want to do whatever that may be. I'll take care of my wife and child. I'll be a better person because of it I think. I won't be feeling bad because I sinned or because God will destroy my brother and my mother. I feel free, I was happy, I noticed the sky was blue today (seriously) and thought for the first time in my life that it's not God's will and God won't change it. I don't have reason to be mad at individual Witnesses.

So now what? I'll simply quit going. I'm giving the paperwork I have in my position back (unfinished) with my wife, she can give it to whoever. I don't care. I am free of slavery. Hopefully others will wake up.

The straw that finally got things rolling with the elders and caught the attention was my last talk combined with the answers I've been giving over the past few weeks:

How to imitate God and Jesus in Good Manners.

Manners - the unenforced standards of conduct which demonstrate that a person is proper, polite, and refined. Schools have existed for the sole purpose of teaching manners and they change over time, location, social status and other circumstances.

Let's read Habakkuk 2:3. What can we learn about good manners from this verse? We can learn for one thing that God himself promises he will not be late. And that is sometimes a problem for all of us. However one writer on manners says: Being fashionably late has never been acceptable etiquette.

So how can we fix being late? The best thing to do is to make plans. Proverbs 20:18 says "By counsel plans themselves are firmly established".

Especially our meetings should start and end at the times advertised which includes the closing song and prayer. If we have a part in the meeting and we are running late, we could take out a section or we could ask those that comment to keep their answers short and to the point.

As said, manners change over time. Back in bible times God did not condone religious tolerance. Even among the first century Christians, Paul vilified other religions and different Christian groups such as the Gnostic, Gentile and Jewish Christians often went against each other as evidenced in Acts 11.

But these days it is not proper to call people out on their what we consider 'wrong' beliefs. Yes, we should always try to be cordial. And many of us already do that in the every day door to door ministry. However we sometimes have the tendency to change that tone when we get engaged in a discussion and we have to defend our personal beliefs.

We can find a good way of discussing someone's religious beliefs by example of Jesus in Matthew 17:25 when he asked about who paid head tax. You may remember Jesus asked "What do you believe Simon?"

Whether they be right or wrong you should know beforehand what someone believes. That means we may have to ask or do some research in advance.

For example, what does it mean when somebody says he's an atheist? Do we say "Well, you don't believe in God". That is not what atheism is, atheists simply do not feel they have enough evidence to substantiate the existence of a God that cares for us but they are willing to change their viewpoints.

How about our own believes? Are we well mannered to let others criticize or explain what they think about us? For example if someone says "You do not accept Christ as your mediator", we may be quick to say "Yes I do" but you would be wrong. The Insight book on Mediator clearly shows that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is only a mediator or savior for anointed Christians.

How about the people we meet? Let’s read Matthew 28:9. Jesus said “Good Day”. This is a basic greeting and common manner in all cultures. However sometimes we have a problem with that. Maybe it is a person we don’t like. Maybe it’s a person that was once associated with the Witnesses but no longer does. However, a simple “Good Day” could lead to a spiritually upbuilding conversation.

Nowhere do the scriptures allow us to shun or avoid contact with somebody regardless of what they did to us or to others but we can learn again from the example of Jesus, he ate with sinners and tax collectors and admonished us to “continue” loving our enemies and continue being merciful, forgiving.

So what have we learned about good manners? 1) We should try to be on time and plan to do this. 2) Allow people to express their beliefs and make sure that what you ask them to do, you can do likewise 3) Even if we don’t like someone or someone has done us wrong, always greet them, always show love towards them.

JW loses malpractice suit over a blood transfusion.

she survived and sued, claiming medical malpractice.. .

the new york trial court dismissed the case, holding there is no precedent for finding medical malpractice when a blood transfusion was the proximate case of saving a live -- regardless if the patient may be offended or even emotionally distressed by the hospital's actions, which in this case were inconsistent with her religious beliefs.. mat staver, dean of liberty university's school of law and founder of orlando-based liberty counsel, takes issue with the ruling.. .

Malpractice suits are NOT over conscience or choices being made it's whether violating somebody's will or choices has actively hurt them with long term effects. Malpractice suits could be over bad implants, ignoring somebodies allergies or sticking someone in an MRI without asking them whether they have shrapnel or other metal in their body. Malpractice suits assess the damages (if any) and long term pain and/or disability caused by it (if any) and compensates accordingly.

He could sue for a host of other things that are of the nature of religious freedoms but that would not be a malpractice suit and I doubt that you can sue a non-governmental entity for violating somebody's constitutional rights (constitution only grants the governments' powers) especially since the case already looks very weak.

JWs relieved when judges decree their kids must have a blood transfusion

danny haszard tweeted the following story from the flordia sun-sentinel: state butts in to give kids a life.

it's a fascinating story that shows the real attitude of many parents of young children who become seriously ill. though ordered by their religion to refuse transfusions and simply accept that their child may die as a result, some parents willingly accept the right of the state to decree that a transfusion must take place if doctors so decide.. no parent wants their child to die, and it would simply tear them apart to know that a reasonably simple and routine medical practice could save their life ... yet they would be shunned by their family and friends if they accepted.

the solution is to hope like hell the state steps in, allowing them to say to their congregation, "well, what can you do?

This legal procedure is sanctioned and recommended by the HLC. I am not on the HLC but someone close to me is. When I talked to him about my 'doubts' he told me that this is how the HLC handles it now so I don't have to worry if a loved one needs blood in a medical procedure and I won't get DF'ed if that is the case.

The real cause is of course the very tangible liability and even if they're not, defending lawsuits is equally expensive.
